Part of the Kimono Umbrella collection, this Japanese Kimono Parasol design is Hanashibori, “a flower by tie dye”. Crafted & upcycled from a genuine traditional, antique Kimono that has been passed down through generations.

This wonderful parasol is made from beautiful silk Kimono fabric which has been naturally dyed using a process called Shibori-zome which is like tie-dying.

Like Kamon, Shibori-zome has a very long history in Japan and even today may be seen in the Shosoin and Horyuji Temple in Nara Prefecture, which was built in the 8th century. In the 21st century, Shibori-Zome is still carried out by skilled craftsmen in both Kyoto and Arimatsu which are the main production areas for stunning Shibori-Zome.

None of the patterns of “Shibori-zome” is ever the same, always unique. The diverse designs of “Shibori-zome” are created by human hands which is one of the charms of “Shibori-zome”. Bright and elegant, from pure silk.

Canopy is made from 100% silk of a Kimono, meaning it’s not suitable for rain as it would damage the silk – however, it is perfect for the sun, weighing approximately 310 grams. Enjoy the sleek, elegant design of this Hanashibori Japanese Umbrella.
