Part of the Kimono Umbrella collection, this Japanese umbrella design is 涼風 Suzukaze Kimono Umbrella. Suzukaze translates to a pleasant breeze in Japanese. Crafted & upcycled from a traditional, antique Kimono that has been passed down through generations. 

Product History

Coated in a Vintage Kimono fabric, a glass fibre body, and a wooden handle. Suzukaze embodies summer openwork gauze material in a refreshingly lovely, youthful, and cool design. This is a prestigious piece of work. A kimono is said to be a walking painting, a hanging scroll that reflects the Japanese landscape, and a parasol is a work of art that symbolizes this.

This Kimono is of “gauze” weaving for summer specially made in the 1960s. This was worn for formal occasions such as tea ceremonies or at a prestigious banquet. The cool weaving open pattern is a true reflection of Japanese kimono culture since it does not let the other person feel the heat of summer by protecting them with such a stylish kimono.

A canopy made from 100% silk of a Kimono, meaning it’s not suitable for rain as it would damage the silk on the Suzukaze. The theme of this umbrella makes it perfect for the sun, weighing approximately 310 grams. The origin of the Kimono can be traced as far back as the Heian Period over 1200 years ago. Straight cuts of fabric were sewn together to create a garment that fit every body shape.
